Pool Rules & Regulations
Purpose and Authority
As stipulated by The Green Woods Club Bylaws, these Rules and Regulations are established and approved by the Board of Directors to ensure the safe and sanitary operation of the pool facilities; to provide enjoyable recreation for members and their guests; and to comply with all applicable state and local regulations.
Bondholders are responsible for reading, understanding, and explaining these Rules and Regulations to members of their household, caregivers, and guests. All members are responsible for ensuring compliance with these Rules and Regulations.
A current copy of these Rules and Regulations is posted at the pool. Copies are available upon request from the Pool Manager or the Board of Directors.
Definitions
For purposes of these Rules and Regulations, the following definitions apply:
Adult
A person eighteen (18) years of age or older.
Basic Swimming Test
A swim competency test administered by pool staff or lifeguards to determine whether a child may swim unaccompanied or access restricted pool areas. The content, administration, and pass/fail determination of the test are at the sole discretion of pool staff. Successful completion is valid for the current pool season only.
Bondholder
A member holding a bond as defined in The Green Woods Club Bylaws.
Responsible Caregiver
A person designated by a bondholder or spouse to supervise the bondholder’s children while on Club property. A responsible caregiver must be at least fourteen (14) years old and must provide active, continuous supervision of the children in their care. Lifeguards are not considered caregivers.
Crowded
A condition determined solely by pool staff or management in which the number of swimmers or activities presents a potential safety concern.
Pool Privileges
The right to access and use the pool facilities, grounds, and amenities, including swimming, diving, sliding, supervising children, and attending events.
Proper Supervision
Active, attentive supervision in which the responsible caregiver remains present on pool grounds, maintains visual awareness of the child(ren), ensures compliance with these Rules and Regulations, and is able to respond immediately to the child’s needs or unsafe behavior.
Unaccompanied
Being present at the Club without an adult member, parent, guardian, or responsible caregiver physically present on pool grounds.
General Rules
- The speed limit on Maple Lane and on Green Woods Club property is 15 mph.
- Every member must check in at the gate with the lifeguard on duty. All members are required to have a current, face-forward photograph on file.
- Music and other entertainment must be played at a reasonable volume, as determined by pool staff and management, to ensure a pleasant environment for all.
- The emergency signal for clearing the pool is three (3) blasts of the whistle. All swimmers must promptly exit the pool when this signal is sounded.
- Playing around or interfering with pool drains is prohibited.
- Intoxicated individuals are not permitted in or around the pool area.
- Appropriate language must be used at all times. Vulgar or offensive language will not be tolerated.
- Skateboards are prohibited on Club property.
Safety and Health
- The pool may only be used during posted dates and hours and only when lifeguards are on duty, except during swim team practices or meets. Pool staff and management are in complete charge of the pool, and their instructions must be followed at all times.
- All persons use the pool at their own risk. The Green Woods Club and its management company are not responsible for accidents or injuries resulting from pool use.
- All swimmers must shower with soap before entering the pool and after any athletic activity outside the pool, as required by the Board of Health.
- Admission may be refused to anyone with observable symptoms of illness, infections, skin abrasions, inflamed eyes, or who is wearing bandages.
- Food and beverages are not permitted on the pool deck, except for water. Members and guests are responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
- Glass containers are prohibited. Unbreakable plastic containers and cans are permitted.
- Running, pushing, wrestling, shoulder riding, or other unsafe behavior is prohibited on the pool deck and in the pool.
- In the event of thunder, the pool will close for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes.
- Pool staff may stop any activity at any time in the interest of safety.
- Flotation devices are not permitted in the large pool. Kickboards may be used for lap swimming at the lifeguard’s discretion when the pool is not crowded. Flotation devices may be used in the wading pool only with proper supervision. Float nights are permitted on posted dates.
- Diving is prohibited in the 3-foot area. Back dives, flip dives, prolonged underwater swimming, breath-holding contests, or similar activities are prohibited.
- Diving boards and slides are subject to posted rules and staff direction. Pool staff may suspend use at any time due to crowding or safety concerns.
- The rope separating the diving well must be in place during weekends and periods of heavy attendance. Removal is at the lifeguard’s discretion during low-use periods.
- Four square, shuffleboard, and ping pong are permitted in designated deck areas. Rope swing, basketball, volleyball, and horseshoes are permitted in designated grassy areas.
- Smoking and vaping are prohibited within the fenced pool area.
- Trash must be placed in designated containers. Members are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Club property.
- Pets are prohibited on pool grounds.
- Adult swim may be held for fifteen (15) minutes at the top of each hour as needed.
Restrictions Pertaining to Children
- A signed permission slip and emergency contact form must be on file for all children under eighteen (18).
- Children eleven (11) years old and younger must be supervised at all times by a responsible caregiver.
- Children twelve (12) years old and older may be unaccompanied only if they have passed the Basic Swimming Test and a current Consent Form is on file.
- Children who have not passed the Basic Swimming Test:
- May not use the diving board or diving area
- May enter the large pool only when accompanied and actively supervised
- Children under seven (7) years old may use the wading pool only with strict supervision. Children seven (7) and older may not use the wading pool.
- Children who are not toilet-trained, or who wear diapers or incontinence products, are not permitted in the large pool.
- Children may remain with instructors during lessons or swim team practice. Upon completion, all supervision rules apply.
- Lounge chairs are reserved for adults. If chairs are available, individuals under eighteen (18) may use them until needed by an adult.
Guests and Events
- Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times.
- Guest fees are $10 per person per day. Fees apply to all guests who have reached their first birthday by opening day of the season.
- Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests and caregivers.
- Members may invite unlimited guests during the season, with a maximum of ten (10) guests per family per day. Any individual may attend as a guest no more than ten (10) times per season.
- Guest passes may be purchased via Member Splash or at the gate and are non-transferable.
- Houseguest privileges require written application and Board approval.
- Caregivers may attend the pool only while supervising children. Registered caregivers may be added for an additional fee as permitted by the Bylaws.
- Swimming parties must be booked and approved in advance and may require additional lifeguards at the member’s expense.
Special Accommodations
The Board of Directors may approve reasonable modifications to these Rules and Regulations to accommodate disabled individuals upon written request submitted through the Pool Manager, consistent with applicable law.
Enforcement of Rules
- Lifeguards are authorized to enforce all Rules and Regulations immediately.
- The Pool Manager may suspend pool privileges for up to twenty-four (24) hours.
- Failure to comply with a suspension order will result in an indefinite suspension pending Board review.
- Suspensions will be communicated orally at the time of enforcement, with written or email notice provided as soon as practicable.
- The Board of Directors retains the authority to reinstate privileges, extend suspensions, or cancel memberships in accordance with the Bylaws.
Final Note
These Rules and Regulations exist to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all members and guests. Cooperation with staff and fellow members is expected at all times.
